If one had to compile a list of some of the most path-breaking and stupendous crime movies, then no list is complete without this movie. A movie that has developed a cult following and shows Nana Patekar in his finest ever. Sadhu Agashe (Patekar) is one of Mumbai Police’s finest inspector and currently heading the crime branch department, a team that is assigned the task of wiping out the underworld. Sadhu develops a love-hate relationship with Don Zameer (Purandhare) who is one of the two people who control Mumbai’s underworld. Sadhu starts confiding in Zameer and the two become friends, of sort. When Sadhu’s wife gets murdered by the underworld, Sadhul pledges to find who did it and take revenge. To add to his woes, the police commissioner, who is Sadhu’s mentor, retires and is replaced by a new commissioner who is corrupt and has direct links to the underworld. Sadhu gets sidelined and is made to work against the welfare of the people, something that he is not used to doing and doesn’t feel correct about. No amount of praise is too less for this movie, yes it does demand your attention to every word and movement but is more in the interest of appreciating the movie better. Yes some might point out that the climax is not too hard to guess, but that doesn’t make the movie any less exciting. There is no jazzy dance moves and songs, no flamboyant mainstream actors and no wannabe direction; it is a pure Bollywood crime movie.
