Starring: Jim Carrey, Courtney Cox, Sean Young
Jim Carrey at his eccentric best, it can never get any better than this. Ace Ventura (Carrey) is an animal lover and detective and hence he is a ‘pet detective’. He mostly solves cases and mysteries involving missing animals using techniques that often make him the laughing stock. The Miami dolphins football team has lost their mascot, a bottlenose dolphin, something which has greatly affected the morale and energy of the players and the fans. Ventura is hired by the teams publicist, Melissa Robinson (Cox), to help track down and find the missing dolphin. If you’re looking for a movie with a good plot, fine acting, classic humour and something for the entire family to watch together, you’re probably going the wrong way. The only reason one can tolerate this movie to any extent is if you don’t mind some of Jim Carrey’s outright stupidity and toilet humour. It is outright hilarious and can keep you entertained for a decent amount of time. You have to give the guy some credit for being able to pull something like this off so well.
Thumbs up: Jim Carrey and his ridiculous style of humour
Thumbs down: Nothing really but from a critical perspective, the plot
